Bronze Dogon Pirogue – The Dogon are people living southwest of Niger in the Mopti region of Mali.  The population . numbers around 300 000 souls.  They produce many African art pieces in bronze using the lost wax technique.  This Dogon canoe is a lovely example.  The body of the pirogue has been inspired by the crocodile.  An oarsman at the prow guides the canoe, while in the middle – the primordial couple sit with companions, finally, a second oarsman restrains the canoe.
