Our Story

The word Wezandla also signifies the act of hands reaching out to help empower our talented crafters to showcase their work on an international platform. Artists who are hand picked from across the African continent - ensuring a diverse, intuitive and exciting range of products to cater for every taste. Our retail store was established in 1994 by the late Glynis Baer. The store changed hands and was taken over by Angela and Kevin Boucher in 2016. In late 2017 the showroom - which had become a landmark in Port Elizabeth was moved to its new exciting home in the historical Parliament Street.

Wezandla is a Zulu Word which broadly translates to ‘with hands’. All the beautiful and unique traditional products within our collection are purely, and proudly handmade throughout Africa.

UPLIFT AND EMPOWER. THIS IS THE VERY CORE OF WHAT WEZANDLA STANDS FOR.

Origins

Our African Art & Collectables are sampled from a vast variety of authentic African art and craft. From these we have hand selected the most beautiful objects and artefacts. Many have found their way to us from deep within this vast continent.

The arduous journey

Many of these pieces have made the arduous journey through drought-stricken land, lush rain forests, war torn countries – preciously carried through areas where no roads exist, to eventually find their way to Wezandla. Allowing each of these pieces to stand alone and shine as they should – a beautifully crafted and most collectable object, captivating and holding within it many mysteries and meanings, traditions and stories untold.
